Why You NEED to Be in Sunday School

Why You NEED to Be in Sunday School

This Sunday marks a new quarter in Sunday School at Providence Baptist Church. I have never been more excited about the slate of classes than I have towards this particular group. We have been blessed with great teachers at PBC and the teaching ministry team has been hard at work designing a set of courses that builds disciples. All three of the adult courses work towards that end. Paul told Timothy:

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. -2 Timothy 3:16-17 (ESV).

These classes are to prepare you in service to build the kingdom of God by equipping you through the study of the scriptures. Greg Barnett will be teaching a survey of the New Testament. Within the class he will be discussing how the different books function together and the historical significance of each book. Every mature believer should have an overview of both the Old and New Testament. Dennon Clardy will be teaching one of the best evangelistic strategies that I am aware. This approach is both God centered and scriptural. It will give you confidence in the purity of the gospel. And Mike Watson will be teaching our next systematic theology class. We had great participation in the last class and the testimony has been overwhelming about how helpful the material has been in personal devotion and witnessing. That being said, I can assure you every course taught this quarter is needed for every believer. The struggle should not be whether or not you should attend, because there is no doubt you NEED these classes. The struggle will be which of these incredible classes with these wonderful teachers will I choose to take this quarter. (Don’t worry, if you miss out on the other two, they will be offered again in the near future). But you NEED to be Providence Baptist Church this Sunday at Sunday School. I look forward to seeing you there.

Essential Teachings of the Christian Faith Teacher: Mike Watson
This is the second of three classes in basic theology. It is not necessary to have the first class in order to participate in the second class. Everyone is welcome to attend. We will be using the Bible along with Wayne Grudem’s book Bible Doctrine. This class will be covering the doctrine of man, doctrine of the church and the doctrine of the future (Theology 102). The objective for the class is to gain knowledge of the Christian faith through the revealed word of God so that you might love God all the more.

Introduction to the New Testament Teacher:  Greg Barnett
This is part one of a two part class that will briefly survey every book of the New Testament. The class will provide a summary of each book’s content and discuss its theological contribution to our understanding of faith. The primary texts of the course will be the Bible and Introduction to the New Testament by D.A. Carson and Douglas Moo.

Tell the Truth Teacher: Dennon Clardy
This class will reinstate the truth framework necessary for the survival of evangelism. Biblical illiteracy among evangelicals is on the rise. Theological discernment between truth and error is increasingly elusive. We need to be recalibrated not to the changing times but to the changeless gospel. As useful as it is passionate, Tell the Truth will refocus and re-energize a whole new generation to communicate the whole gospel, wholly by grace, truthfully and lovingly.
