The Business of the Church (Part 1)

Posted May 23 | Dr. Blair Waddell

Our church strives to do it's best to honor the principles found in the New Testament. And one of those principles is that the church be led by a plurality of elders. We believe this because it is found in the scriptures. The concept of eldership is always used in the plural whenever a New Testament church is addressed.

The Ministry of Rev. George McGuiness

Posted November 12 | Dr. Blair Waddell

This past Sunday afternoon, we had the opportunity to honor the Rev. George McGuinness, who retired as an elder at Providence Baptist Church upon his seventy-fifth birthday. It has been our great privilege to have George as a faithful worker and leader. For those of you who know the Scotsman, you know he has a passion for ‘resurrecting’ the memory of figures from Church history. So we decided to honor him by writing an article on his remarkable career and service to our Lord. Click here to read or download.

Did God speak to Pastor Blair?

Posted October 22 | Dr. Blair Waddell

Last Sunday, I made a startling statement during the worship service. At the conclusion during the announcement time, I said “God told me he wants you in Sunday School.” Some of you might have thought I said that to be dramatic or to be amusing. But let me promise you, I will never (ever) make light of speaking on behalf of God. When I made that statement, I was serious. If you are a member of Providence Baptist Church, God wants you to be in Sunday School. So you might be asking at this point, how did God tell you this?

Why You NEED to Be in Sunday School

Posted October 16 | Dr. Blair Waddell

This Sunday marks a new quarter in Sunday School at Providence Baptist Church. I have never been more excited about the slate of classes than I have towards this particular group. We have been blessed with great teachers at PBC and the teaching ministry team has been hard at work designing a set of courses that builds disciples.

A Word from Our Senior Pastor

Posted October 4 | Dr. Blair Waddell

I have been overwhelmed from the encouragement I have received from you since becoming your pastor. I consider being the pastor of Providence Baptist Church to be a great privilege. Lisa, the girls and I are looking forward to being with you on a regular basis sometime in the near future. Many of you have been so kind to ask ‘Is there anything we can do for you?’ The answer to that question is a resounding ‘Yes!’. There is something very important I need you to do for me. I need you to pray for me.

The Reciprocating Blessing of Sunday School

Posted May 22 | Dr. Blair Waddell

One of the great blessings that we have as a church is our Sunday School. It is wonderful to think that every week we have the opportunity to grown through teaching in smaller intimate groups apart from our normal worship service. It is even more of a blessing to our children as they receive the benefit of specialized instruction for their particular age level. We have some fantastic classes for you and I hope you will sign up this Sunday so we can be prepared for materials on the very first Sunday. Below is a description of the new adult classes. I particularly want to draw your attention to our Church History Class. It is one of the core curriculum courses at Providence Baptist and if you have not taken it yet, I would encourage you to do so.

Memorial Stones

Posted May 14 | Blair Waddell

Then Joshua called the twelve men from the people of Israel, whom he had appointed, a man from each tribe. And Joshua said to them, “Pass on before the ark of the LORD your God into the midst of the Jordan, and take up each of you a stone upon his shoulder, according to the number of the tribes of the people of Israel, that this may be a sign among you. When your children ask in time to come, ‘What do those stones mean to you? then you shall tell them that the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD. When it passed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. So these stones shall be to the people of Israel a memorial forever.” (Josh 4:4-7 (ESV))

An Elder Update

Posted March 6 | Rev. Blair Waddell

While the question "How did we get here?" is not a bad question, (as hindsight is always 20/20) a better question might be "what are we doing within our own abilities to make sure an event like this does not happen again?"
